Breaking fairy tale news has officially taken the phrase “when pigs fly” off the list of impossible things. The Three Little Pigs were spotted flying above the countryside late yesterday, carried not by wings, balloons, or questionable wizardry, but by their own hair. Witnesses report that the pigs had recently gotten their hooves on a mysterious hair…
About
Silly Scoop is a nonsense news platform created for imagination, creativity, and a bit of collective relief.
We share stories you will not find anywhere else. Updates on the Frog Prince and his tadpoles. Fairy Godmother’s latest cupcake experiments. News of Thor’s misplaced hammer. Robin Hood’s unconventional arrows. And whatever else the imagination decides is worth paying attention to today.
Not because the world needs more information, but because it already has so much.
The outside world is filled with real headlines. War, politics, disasters, urgency, outrage, and constant alerts competing for our attention. Many have noticed, and studies now reflect, that both children and adults are carrying more stress, shorter attention spans, and a growing distance from reading, as screens replace storytelling and passive consumption replaces imagination.
More than ever, literacy today goes beyond simply reading words on a page. It is learning to imagine, to follow a story, to stay with it, and to build inner worlds. Reading for pleasure strengthens empathy, focus, and emotional wellbeing, yet reading for joy is becoming less common.
Silly Scoop exists as a pause.
A space to step away from outside noise and step inward, into stories, humor, and imaginations meeting one another. A place where news does not have to be serious to be meaningful, and where creativity is treated as something worth caring for.
Here, reading is playful and all ideas are welcome. Children and adults alike are invited to read, imagine, contribute, and have fun.
Our news has no borders. Our stories have no age limit.
Welcome to Silly Scoop.
Dedicated to Althea Southwick.

Our Founder
Silly Scoop was created by Janica Southwick, a lifelong storyteller and mother of three.
Before Silly Scoop, Janica spent over fifteen years working in children’s media and education in Japan. She appeared as an on air talent on Japan’s national broadcaster NHK, performed as a children’s actress on the award winning NHK program Eigorian, and served as an official collaborator and image character for Shichida Child Academy, a global early childhood education group.

She is the author of five books focused on English learning and cultural understanding, published by leading Japanese publishing houses. Alongside writing, she created stage productions for children, founded a music and arts school, and spent years building imaginative worlds designed to help children learn through curiosity rather than pressure.
Silly Scoop grew out of the same place all of that work began. Bedtime stories. Scrap paper sketches. Listening closely to how children think, laugh, and make sense of the world. It is news, but sideways. Serious ideas, told gently. Absurd stories, told with care.
At its heart, Silly Scoop is a reminder that imagination is not extra. It is essential.
